Happy Sunday, friend. As you prepare for worship this morning, let’s take a moment of quiet to invite God’s presence into your awareness today.
Have you ever felt invisible? Like you’ve had one of those days where you’re driving and people keep pulling out in front of you or taking the wrong turn at a four way stop and you think, “Am I invisible here?” It happens at the grocery store, too. People go anywhere and everywhere with their carts with little concern for the shoppers around them.
Have you ever felt invisible to God? You feel as though God is doing good things for everyone else, but your situation is still being ignored. You can’t see Him moving. Maybe you’re even in a winter season of the soul and you don’t really feel His presence. It’s a hard, dark place to be.
But…
This is why we stay rooted in the Word of God. We’re constantly reminded that He is everywhere, always with us.
I’m reminded of David’s words in Psalm 139:7-10:
Where can I go from your Spirit?
Where can I flee from your presence?
If I go up to the heavens, you are there.
If I make my bed in the depths, you are there.
If I rise on the wings of the dawn,
if I settle on the far side of the sea,
even there your hand will guide me,
your right hand will hold me fast.
Or these from Psalm 9:7-10:
The LORD reigns forever;
He has established his throne for judgment.
He will judge the world in righteousness;
He will govern the peoples with justice.
The LORD is a refuge for the oppressed,
a stronghold in times of trouble.
Those who know your name will trust in you,
for you, LORD, have never forsaken those who seek you.
It doesn’t matter how we feel or don’t feel, God’s presence is with us always. That’s the reason Jesus said the Holy Spirit was coming to be with us. Regardless of whether or not we think we feel Him when we worship or in our lives’ circumstances, He is with us always. There is no place we can go to feel from His presence.
And I am so thankful for that reassurance. He goes before us and behind us. He hems us in. He upholds us with His mighty right hand. He lives within us. God’s timing may not be what we desire, but He’s moving. He’s working. And He is good.
Let’s pray.
God,
Thank you for your Word that reminds us of your faithfulness. Thank you for knowing how desperately we would need your spirit here in us. Whether we recognize it or not, there is nothing we can do apart from you. If any of us are in that season of feeling ignored or even abandoned, would you encourage us by your Word and would you make your presence known to us today. God, we’re desperate for you. It’s in Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
