Happy Sunday, friend. As you prepare for worship this morning, let’s take a moment of quiet to invite God’s presence into your awareness today.

With what feels like a lot of extra chaos in the world right now, I’ve had a song running through my head on repeat recently. It’s called Psalm 2 (As for Me) by Christy Nockels. I’d love for you to check it out.

I’m going to first read a part of the Psalm that this comes from to you, and then I’ll share with you some of Christy’s lyrics.

Psalm 2

1 Why do the nations conspire and the peoples plot in vain?

2 The kings of the earth rise up and the rulers band together

against the Lord and against his anointed, saying,

3 “Let us break their chains and throw off their shackles.”

4 The One enthroned in heaven laughs; the Lord scoffs at them.

5 He rebukes them in his anger and terrifies them in his wrath, saying,

6 “I have installed my king on Zion, my holy mountain.”

I love the picture of God laughing as the people on earth are scrambling in the chaos of the world. He laughs because He doesn’t fear. He’s in control. As it says in verse 6, “I have installed my king on Zion, my holy mountain.” He's still on the throne.

I love the song lyrics that put all this a little more poetically:

Verse 1

Everything that can be shaken is shaking

Everything that can be sifted is sifting

All the kingdoms of this world are unravelling

And if you listen, you can hear the nations raging

Pre-chorus

But the Word of the Lord has spoken

That there's a God in the heavens

Reigning over all, rejoicing as He says

Chorus

As for Me, I've set My King On Zion, on Zion!

As for Me, I've set My King On Zion, on Zion!

Verse 2

There's a brightest hope our hearts can remember

And a purest fire that burns in us like embers

'Cause we're the people of His heart, and His splendor!

Returning to our God, our Defender

Bridge:

Every nation is Your heritage

All the way to the ends of the earth

Everything belongs to You, Jesus!

And blessed is the one Who takes refuge in Your name

They belong to You, Jesus!

They belong to You, Jesus!

Pre-chorus 2

Yes, the Word of the Lord has spoken

That there's a God in the heavens

Reigning over all, laughing as He says

Chorus

As for Me, I've set My King On Zion, on Zion!

As for Me, I've set My King On Zion, on Zion!

And as for me, I'll worship this King On Zion, on Zion!

As I think I mentioned in a recent episode, Psalm 145:13 puts it this way:

13 Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom,

and your dominion endures through all generations.

Chaos may rage. Nations may war. But God’s kingdom isn’t going anywhere. His rule and reign are forever. You can rest in Him because He laughs at the chaos, securely on His throne. Heaven is coming, friends. This world is temporary, but our reward is coming!

Let’s pray.

Father, thank You for these words that remind us that You don’t fear the things we fear. Thank You for the reassurance that You’re still in control. You’re still the One who holds it all together. And thank You for the beautiful promise of Heaven that we know is our reward because of the blood of Jesus. God, we’ve set our King on Zion, too. Help us to keep You there on the thrones of our lives. You’re our King. Not ourselves, our desires, any political party or any earthly thing. You are the King. We’ll wait for You, God. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
