Happy Sunday, friend. As you prepare for worship this morning, let’s take a moment of quiet to invite God’s presence into your awareness today.
Today, I want to encourage you with the words from Psalm 147, verses 1-12.
Psalm 147
1 Praise the Lord.
How good it is to sing praises to our God,
how pleasant and fitting to praise him!
2 The Lord builds up Jerusalem;
he gathers the exiles of Israel.
3 He heals the brokenhearted
and binds up their wounds.
4 He determines the number of the stars
and calls them each by name.
5 Great is our Lord and mighty in power;
his understanding has no limit.
6 The Lord sustains the humble
but casts the wicked to the ground.
7 Sing to the Lord with grateful praise;
make music to our God on the harp.
8 He covers the sky with clouds;
he supplies the earth with rain
and makes grass grow on the hills.
9 He provides food for the cattle
and for the young ravens when they call.
10 His pleasure is not in the strength of the horse,
nor his delight in the legs of the warrior;
11 the Lord delights in those who fear him,
who put their hope in his unfailing love.
12 Extol the Lord, Jerusalem;
praise your God, Zion.
This Psalm gives us so many reasons to have deep trust in the Lord. He heals the brokenhearted and binds their wounds. He knows not just how many stars there are, but He calls them each by the name He has chosen for them. His understanding has no limit. He provides the rain the Earth needs to survive. He provides food for the animals He has created. And He delights those who fear Him and put their hope in His unfailing love.
What a comfort to know that, if He is so good to take care of the animals and plants He created, so good to know the stars by name, He will also take care of us—those who fear Him and put our hope in His unfailing love.
Let’s pray.
Father God, as a human, it’s so hard to imagine a love that is unfailing. That could care so much about us that it says you delight in us. Our delight is fleeting and our love is, all too often, conditional. And while we can’t understand it, we are so thankful that we can fully trust in Your Word, in Your character and in Your promises. Let our hearts meditate on that as we worship today. It’s in Jesus’s name we pray. Amen.
