Happy Sunday, friend.  As you prepare for worship this morning, let’s take a moment of quiet to invite God’s presence into your awareness today.

I spent last week on vacation in Florida with my family.  And there’s just something about vacation, time away in a different place, to make you appreciate and truly revel in God’s creation.  It’s hard to not feel that way at the ocean.  The vast size, the constant rush of waves, the breeze, the wildlife---it’s just breathtaking.  If we’re paying attention, the scenery around us daily is pretty breathtaking, too.  The range of colors, smells and sights are such a testament to God’s creativity.

While we were in the ocean, a pair of dolphins swam around the swimming area.  I had never seen dolphins in the wild before and it was a bring tears to your eyes moment for me.  A bit later, they came through again.  The next time they came through, they were inside the swimming buoys, approximately 30 feet from where we were swimming.  It was enchanting. I couldn’t keep my eyes off the water, hoping for more sightings.  They did grace us with their presence one more time and it really just felt like a gift from God for us to have that experience.

I have thought about those dolphins for days.  Today I was thanking God, again, for that experience when He reminded me that as much care and detail that went into the dolphins creation—He gave more attention and care to my own creation.  Sometimes it’s easy to feel like we’re just one small person in a world of billions of people.  We all have so many similarities.  But God has truly made each of us unique.  And He knows each of us, down to each of those unique details.  The Psalmist talks about this in detail in Psalm 139:

13 For you created my inmost being;

you knit me together in my mother’s womb.

14 I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;

your works are wonderful,

I know that full well.

15 My frame was not hidden from you

when I was made in the secret place,

when I was woven together in the depths of the earth.

16 Your eyes saw my unformed body;

all the days ordained for me were written in your book

before one of them came to be.

In case you have forgotten, you were not a mistake.  You were not an accident.  You are not just a faceless person in a sea of billions.  You are loved.  Chosen.  Made with great care and detail.  As beautiful as God’s earth is to us, we are that to Him.  He created man and said “It is very good.”  This includes you, friend.

Let’s pray.

God, thank You for the way You have created each of us.  Thank You for Your care and attention to detail.  Thank You for deciding that we were worth existing.  Thank You for proving just how much You meant that by sending Jesus to die on the cross for us.  Oh how great is the love You have lavished on us that we should be called Your sons and daughters.  What a gift!  Help us to lead from that place of being Your Beloved today.  It’s in Jesus’ name we pray.  Amen.
