Happy Sunday, friend.  As you prepare for worship this morning, let’s take a moment of quiet to invite God’s presence into your awareness today.

Colossians 2:9-15 9 For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form, 10 and in Christ you have been brought to fullness. He is the head over every power and authority. 11 In him you were also circumcised with a circumcision not performed by human hands. Your whole self ruled by the flesh[b] was put off when you were circumcised by[c] Christ, 12 having been buried with him in baptism, in which you were also raised with him through your faith in the working of God, who raised him from the dead.

13 When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made you[d] alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins, 14 having canceled the charge of our legal indebtedness, which stood against us and condemned us; he has taken it away, nailing it to the cross. 15 And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross.

This passage is our victory story.  While we were dead in our sin—separated from a holy God because of our inability to be holy on our own—Jesus died for us.  This is our good news.

This is why we sing.

And this passage reminds me of the beloved hymn, It is Well With My Soul.

One of the verses says this:

My sin, o the bliss of this glorious thought. My sin, not in part, but the whole, is nailed to the cross and I bear it no more. Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, O my soul.

And that thought should bring us bliss—it should bubble up in us and pour out in worship.  My sin—not just some of it, but all of it—the past sins and the one God knows I'm still going to commit—they’ve been nailed to the cross and they no longer keep me from my Heavenly Father.  And as the song says, praise the Lord, o my soul!

Let's pray.

Father, Your goodness to us is evident all around us.  If we’re not seeing and feeling that today, would You open our eyes?  God, Your love is something we can’t imagine—that You would choose to send Jesus to die for us while we were still sinners, knowing that we could never be Holy on our own.  But You did.  Thank You for loving us that much.  Let that thought of our sins being nailed to the cross and forgiven drive our hearts in worship today.  When we remember just how much we’ve been forgiven, we cannot help but worship You.  Thank You, God, for Jesus and for the gift we have of a home in heaven waiting for us.  We love You.  It’s in Jesus’ name we pray.  Amen.
